About Gael Nagle

Gael has been batiking for over 36 years. She is inspired by the world around her and by the impressionist painters, and is endlessly challenged and rewarded by her love of elemental materials which have been used by people for thousands of years. The materials are 100% cotton sateen, 100% beeswax and permanent procion dyes. None of the dye is painted on. It is a resist process where hot melted beeswax is applied with paintbrushes as the resist, and then, using the traditional method, the cloth is submerged into the cold water dye bath for one hour. Prints are made of the finished work through the scanning/laser process.

We have originals, laser and gicleé prints available. The Gicleé prints are done in archival ink and can be produced in sizes up to 22” x 36”. Call or email for a quote.

Gael's batiks and prints are featured at Lunaria Gallery in Silverton, Oregon (www.lunariagallery.com) and the Breitenbush Hot Springs Gift Shop (www.breitenbush.com), and at the Oregon Country Fair, during July of every year, booth #378 at the top of the figure eight.

She has participated in the "Folklife Festival" in Seattle, the "Salem Arts and Crafts Fair" in Salem and the "Silverton Fine Arts Festival" in Silverton, Oregon.

A unique aspect of Gael's batiking work is the full spectrum of color used. All final pieces have been boiled out four times at a minimum and usually many more times. Each time the wax is boiled out she can introduce a new primary color, and with overlaying of colors is able to achieve the entire color spectrum in each piece.

Gael and her husband, Charlie, live in community at Breitenbush Hot Springs surrounded by old growth forest and river spirits. Life is good.
